Please read lesson one before starting the program.
Your client must solidify the leadership protocol before moving on to the resource-guarding program.
Be sure to have standard food control working well enough that the dog is focusing on the handler.
Start your resource-guarding program with a "no challenge" state of mind. Dogs must understand that you are not out to steal their items, but offer more if they make the correct decision.
The client must stand up while offering the bone during this section's protocol. Again, if you see a dog with true intent, safety first- two leashes and follow the RGA program.
This part of the program teaches how to turn off a dog's obsessive behavior.
The vital commands are Drop it and Leave it.
Handlers should be standing to do this, and not allowing the dog to take the item away.
The Leave-it command could potentially save your dog's life someday. This command tells a dog they can never have something; it's poison. It is a vital part of the Resource Guarding program.
If taught correctly, leave-it can help teach a dog no matter how hard they try, they won’t get the item, but if they do make the right choice- they get rewarded, and if you reach the same time as they do- the rewardable option is to back away from it. No competition, no challenges.
